Beauty UK 3D –FX Mascara

Beauty UK 3D - FX Mascara

When I first picked up this mascara I thought, ‘amazing, a mascara that doesn’t claim to create a false lash effect.’ However after reading the website I was bitterly disappointed as it indeed states, ‘Apply one coat of 3D FX for doe-eyed, "look-at-me" lashes. Add a second coat for added oomph! The result? Lashes so luscious, they'll look like falsies.’

Beauty UK 3D-FX Mascara

Well anyone who reads this blog will know that I have yet to come across a mascara that actually lives up to the claims it makes (perhaps the only exception is Maxfactor’s False Lash Effect Fusion.) Yet again I am left feeling a little disappointed by a mascara.

The great thing about Beauty UK is that it really does offer beauty on a budget, with this particular mascara available for £2.99! Along with the pocket money prices another positive about this mascara is that is has a nice, medium-sized brush that makes application quick and fuss-free, however this is where the positives end. The real flaw of this mascara is that it is very dry. Had the mascara not have come wrapped in plastic I would have thought that it had been left open to dry out. I found it difficult to get decent application out of the tube and strongly suspect that applications will be limited.

Unfortunately my lashes looked neither doe-eyed nor luscious and the only ‘look at me’ effect is not a good one. Sorry Beauty UK but this is one to avoid.

Beauty UK 3D- FX Mascara Review

Product: Yet another false lash effect mascara that doesn’t deliver.

Longevity: Limited. Although it stays on, there are only a few applications per tube due to the dry consistency.

Affordable: Between £2.99 and £3.99

Easy to use: Good medium sized brush means it is easy to apply. Dryness makes it difficult to build length or volume.

Availability: Available at Superdrug and online at beautyukcosmetics.com

The Verdict: 4/10 It may be affordable but ultimately doesn’t deliver. One to avoid in my opinion.

Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara

Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara

When it comes to mascara it seems that false lash effects are the new must-have. Staking their claim on the budget end of the market, Collection 2000 have launched their very own Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara. Yeah that’s right Big-Fake-False-Lash Effect Mascara, not only is the name not so catchy but when you use that many adjectives to describe your product surely you are promising something that you can’t deliver?

Left eye with Big False Lash Effect Mascara
Right eye without mascara
Yes like a lot of the other mascaras on the market at the moment Collection 2000 are claiming to give the volume and length of false lashes in one neatly packaged, over ambitiously named mascara. There lies the problem with this product; it makes claims that it does not fulfil. This left me feeling disappointed, which is a shame because it isn’t a bad mascara at all, it just feels inadequate when you are expecting big-fake-false lashes.

Surprise surprise, this is another mascara that doesn’t deliver a false lash effect but what it does deliver is a good day- to- day mascara for a bargain price of £4.99.  Big Fake False Lash Effect delivers decent lengthening effect and layers well for a bolder look. Unfortunately the mascara doesn’t build volume as much as hoped but the lengthening effect does have good impact. The brush is a little on the large side for me and I found it a bit messy to apply because of this but the mascara is a good constancy and stays put once applied.  In order to test just how waterproof this product is I wore it to the spa and put it through its paces with a facial, jacuzzi, swimming and sauna and amazingly it really did stay put!

Frustratingly, I feel disappointed by this product purely because it does not deliver what it claims to. Had Collection 2000 marketed this as a great lengthening mascara suitable for everyday wear and great for on the beach, this would have been a more positive review. If you are looking for a good, affordable everyday mascara buy Collection 2000’s Big Fake Lash Effect Mascara. If you are looking for a False Lash Effect product splash out and treat yourself to Maxfactor’s False Lash Effect Fusion.

Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara Review

Product: Mascara that claims to create a false lash effect. It doesn’t but it is a good day- to- day mascara.

Longevity: Waterproof formula means that once it has been applied it stays put.

Affordable: £4.99

Easy to use: Yes, the brush is a little on the large side but is otherwise easy to wear and apply.

Availability: Available on the high street and online at both Boots and Superdrug

The Verdict: 6.5/10 A good everyday mascara for a bargain £4.99. Unfortunately it doesn't deliver the false lash effect it promises.

Barry M Nail Varnish – A Great British Institution

Barry M Nail Varnish in  Bright Purple

Nail varnish is the ultimate way to add a splash of colour to a dull day and with the Great British summer being as illusive as ever nail varnish is in great demand. This is pure speculation of course; I have no idea if disappointing summer weather leads to an increase in sales of nail varnish. If the absence of a British summer is leaving you a little deflated and your happiness levels can be boosted by the purchase of a new nail varnish, head down to your local Superdrug and buy yourself some Barry M nail varnish.

Barry M, the Great British nail varnish comes in a vast range of shades. There are four different shades of yellow if you really are looking for a splash of sunshine. I went with Bright Purple for a fun vibrant feel. Barry M has fun, young and vibrant down to a tee but what about those of us who aren’t so young anymore? Don’t let the pocket money prices put you off because there are shades suitable for all ages and tastes and every age likes a bargain.

The nail varnish required two coats but I haven’t yet come across a one-coat varnish. The consistency is good making it easy and fuss free to apply. Once on the nail polish has durability, giving a good three days wear before major chipping and this could be prolonged and extended to five days plus with touch ups. My one area of improvement would be for the brush to be a little thicker to make application quicker but that is only a very minor point and a personal preference.

At £2.99 Barry M nail varnish is an affordable treat that delivers long lasting results. Barry M nail varnish is a true bargain and true gem. A Great British brand far more reliable than the Great British weather!

Barry M Nail Varnish Review

Product: Affordable, long lasting nail polish from Barry M

Longevity: Once applied lasts for about 3 days and this can be prolonged with touch ups.

Affordable: £2.99 – Absolute bargain!

Easy to use: Good consistency means it is easy to apply

Availability: Widely available from Boots, Superdrug and Barry M website

The Verdict:  8.5/10 Affordable, easy to apply and wear!

Maxfactor False Lash Effect Fusion Review

Maxfactor False Effect Fusion

Long fluttering eyelashes, the epitome of femininity. False eyelashes, the ultimate accessory of the wannabe Page 3 girl. I may be simplifying the issue, when false lashes are applied correctly they can look amazing. However, Never Too Broke For Beauty seeks to find time saving and easy to use products and false lashes do not fall into this category! Thankfully though Maxfactor’s False Lash Effect Fusion does.

Left eye without mascara. Right eye using Maxfactor False Lash Effect Fusion
One of my favourite parts of creating this blog is testing out new mascaras, mainly because each makes bigger claims than the next. Maxfactor’s Falsh Lash Effect Fusion is no different. It claims to create the same impact of false lashes, however where this differs from its rivals is it actually delivers. Does it create the look of false lashes? Well erm, no not exactly, but it does create high impact, super long lashes with great volume. When first applied this product doesn’t have much impact but after a couple of layers the effect really is impressive, giving my lashes the illusion of length that I never thought achievable. The mascara also layers really well creating high impact lashes. I’m personally not a fan of the brush as it quite big and therefore difficult to get to the small lashes in the corner of the eye. However, this is one of the few flaws of this product.

Perhaps the second flaw is the price. This mascara is available for £10.99 so isn’t the cheapest mascara around but the results are really impressive. £10.99 is much cheaper than throwaway false lashes and applying mascara is much easier and quicker than applying false lashes. If you’re on a strict budget perhaps save this for a treat and wear it on those special occasions when you want your lashes to look their best.

Maxfactor False Lash Effect Fusion Review

Product: Mascara that delivers high impact, super long lashes.

Longevity: Easy to wear and no dreaded panda eyes. If worn everyday would need to replace monthly.

Affordable: I purchased it for £10.99 so not the cheapest on the market

Easy to use: Easy to apply, layers well without the dreaded clumps.

Availability: Widely available from the high street and online.

The Verdict: 8/10 Mascara that delivers high impact lashes, unfortunately a little on the expensive side.

Maxfactor Smooth Effect Foundation - My New Best Friend

A review of Maxfactor's Smooth Effect Foundation
Maxfactor Smooth Effect Foundation

A good foundation is as rare and valued as a good friend. Like a friend a foundation should be reliable, make you feel good, be complimentary, calm your bad points, enhance your good points, give you a healthy, happy glow and should not be a drain on your resources. Like a good friend, a good foundation is difficult to come by!

If you are merely an acquaintance of Maxfactor now is the time to get to it a little better, as their Smooth Effect Foundation could be that reliable friend you need! What I’m most impressed with is the amount of shades available at the paler end of the scale; Creamy Ivory is perfect for my ghostly pale skin. This foundation provides good coverage that camouflages uneven skin and successful covers minor breakouts. I wouldn’t recommend it for use on skin that is very problematic because it doesn’t layer very well and can look too heavy when reapplied too regularly.

This foundation takes all the boxes Never Too Broke For Beauty looks for. It is long lasting, providing a good 5 hours plus of reliable wear, it blends well, its isn’t too heavy but does provide enough coverage for when your skin isn’t behaving and the oil free formula doesn’t aggravate problematic skin. It is also a bargain at £7.99 and is available at both Boots and Superdrug. So like a good friend, Maxfactor’s Smooth Effect Foundation is reliable and will leave you looking and feeling great!
