Gosh Natural Touch Foundation Review

GOSH Natural Touch Foundation
GOSH Natural Touch Foundation comes in a plastic bottle with a pump action top. One of the first things I noticed about this foundation is that it is scented, which is unusual for foundation. It has a light floral smell that is really nice and not over powering.

I wear foundation everyday, I have spot prone skin and even when it is clear I have some scaring that I like to disguise with makeup. I have very pale skin and find it hard to find foundations that match my skin tone so imagine my delight when browsing the aisles in Superdrug I realised that GOSH cater for paler skin.GOSH Natural Touch Foundation comes is a great variety of shades catering for the very pale, darker tones and everything in between. It also has SPF 8, which is rare for budget foundations and is a massive bonus in my opinion.

Pump action top

GOSH Natural Touch Foundation claims to be 'moisturising and nourishing' and gives a 'flawless natural finish.' As it is a lightweight foundation is doesn't provide enough coverage for a 'flawless' finish on my skin. However, it does even out skin tone well and I find myself reaching for this product on days when my skin is clear and I just want a light coverage. It gives an even, matte finish that is both flattering and long lasting.

The only real negatives I've found with this foundation is that it is a little bit hard to blend. I also found that it sometimes settles in dry patches and so probably isn't the best foundation for dry skin. I strongly suspect that these problems stem from my skin type and this foundation would be easier to blend and wear on skin that holds more moisture than mine.

Overall this is a great lightweight foundation. I would say it would be best for those lucky enough to have clear skin that requires some coverage, perhaps just to even out skin tone. I also think this product is better for those with normal to slightly oily skin as I suspect it would apply without streaks or the need to blend as much.  I picked up  the GOSH Natural Touch Foundation for £8.99 from Superdrug.

GOSH Natural Touch Foundation Review

Product: A lightweight foundation with an SPF that is great for evening out skin tone..

Longevity: Long wearing, up to 5 hours wear. 30ml bottle provides plenty of applications.

Affordable: £8.99
Easy to use: Need to spend a little bit of time blending to get a streak free finish.

Availability: Available from Superdrug.

The Verdict: 7/10 – A good, lightweight foundation that evens out skin tone and gives a flattering matte finish.

A Guardian Angel for Christmas

Virgin Vie Guardian Angel
I've been a little quiet on the blogging front this week, firstly due to the fact that it was the week before Christmas and I've been as busy as an elf wrapping and delivering presents, whilst also keeping up my normal day to day tasks. Secondly because I've been doing all of this with a cold. Like many people I had the dreaded annual cold and with all the nose blowing came a red nose to rival Rudolf himself. My red nose is the inspiration for this post because one product came in super handy for this problem, and this product is the Virgin Vie Guardian Angel.

So let's reflect; its Christmas Eve and I've been as busy as an elf,  had a red nose and been visited by an angel...I think that's enough festive puns covered so let's have a look at the product. I've had the Virgin Vie Guardian Angel for a while but mainly only used it for dry lips and the odd stubborn dry patch on my face. With my cold came a red and chapped nose that was not only painful but looked flaky and was sore. I couldn't disguise the redness because of the state of my skin and when I applied moisturiser it stung so much it brought a tear to my eye. This is when I reached for the Guardian Angel that had sat redundant on the bedside table for months. The first application smoothed my chapped skin and the following day it looked less red and angry. Another two applications and my nose was back to its normal self.

Thick balm with a yellow colour
So what exactly is this wonder balm? Virgin Vie describe it as a,'skin loving balm (that) tackles dry skin, nourishes nails, re-hydrates heels and elbows and much more. It is the ultimate multi-tasker.' The bottle states that it is a 'skin saving balm for unpredictable skin.'  The balm is a thick cream that has a slight yellow tint and has a distinct smell that isn't unpleasant but almost smells like a medicated creme or ointment. It is very moisturising, versatile and just a little goes a long way. This is a good job really as it isn't the cheapest of products as it is priced at £13.00 for 20ml. However, I've realized that this is my go to product when my dry skin is more unpredictable than usual and it has never let me down! The Virgin Vie Guardian Angel is available on the Vie website.

Barbara Daly Nail Polish: A must have whatever the season!

A review of Barbara Daly's nail polish
Barbara Daly Nail Polish
It has photographed darker than it is. It is a vibrant pink when it catches the light.

Ah Christmas, the ultimate excuse to add a bit of glitter to your wardrobe. I've decided to add a little bit of sparkle to my life by updating my nail polish. I opted for Barbara Daly's Nail Polish in Boulevard, which is a glittery, cerise pink colour. This polish takes two to three coats to achieve an even finish but the finish this particular shade gives is amazing. I am absolutely in love with this shade, it looks pink and shimmery when it catches the light and a bit more purple otherwise.

More than anything, what I want in a polish is for it to be durable and chip resistant and this most definitely is. It gives a good two to three days wear without chips and  a couple more days after it has been touched up. The small brush makes it easy to apply and as it is priced at only £3.00 it is a bargain.

Whether you're looking for a little treat for yourself or a stocking filler for a loved one this is a must have. Barbara Daly nail polish is available at Tesco so be sure to pop one in your trolly when you go to get your turkey, it can be a reward for braving the supermarket at Christmas!

I painted my nails in this and my boyfriend was asleep on the sofa so I decided he would like pink toe nails too! He woke up and was none too impressed, however a month down the line he still has pink toe nails. So either this proves that my boyfriend doesn't shower enough or this is a super durable, long lasting polish!

Ok, so now that I've decided I'm growing my hair I've become very impatient and am massively regretting cutting it all off on a whim. I even did the unthinkable and most ridiculous thing ever.....I Googled how to make your hair grow faster. I had done this a few times last time I was growing my hair, even though I know full well that there is no way to make your hair faster. A few of the tips that I thought were a good idea include:

  • Using a regular deep conditioning treatment. One of the benefits of growing your hair from very short is that the hair is new and good quality.
  • Eat a diet containing protein and lots of veg, that can only be a good thing right?!
  • Avoid harsh treatments such as extreme bleaching and constant straightening. Again this is to protect the new hair and prevent breakage.
Ultimately these won't make hair grow quicker but by looking after and protecting against breakage hair will be a better quality and therefore won't require as many trims and you can protect the growth.

I'm starting to wonder if I will ever actually be happy with my hair. When its blonde I want it dark, when its dark I want it blonde, when its short I want it long and when its long I want it short! I am actually never happy with my hair. I think I'm having a bad hair day lifetime!

Primark Beauty Nail Polish Remover

Primark Beauty Nail Polish Remover
One of my worst habits when it comes to my beauty regime is having chipped nails. Now I know to some people this is an unforgivable faux pas, especially for a beauty blogger. My defence is that I have a hands on job so I would have to paint them everyday and I definitely don't have the time for that. Also I find most removers to be super harsh and damaging to my nails.

The other day I was in the queue at Primark picking up a few bargains. I glanced at my nails and low and behold they were chipped and terrible. In front of me were a selection of till tempters and amongst them were Primark Beauty Nail Polish Remover Wipes for £1.00. I popped some in my basket, not expecting them to be amazing but hoping they would do the trick.

That evening I used them to remove my polish, not just any polish but glitter polish and guess what, they worked! Not only do they remove super stubborn polish, they also smell amazing. They don't have the harsh alcohol smell that some removers have, they smell sweet and fruity. They also left my nails feeling nourished and strong instead of stripped and damaged. They cost £1.00 for two pots each containing 25 wipes, I challenge anyone to find any as effect and as cheap as these!

Don't Get Strung Out By The Way I Look

The old Never Too Broke for Beauty
Never Too Broke for Beauty has had a face lift! I'm still relatively new to blogging and when I started out I wasn't sure what I wanted my blog to look like. I'm not the most technical person so was somewhat limited as to what I could do in terms of designing a logo. For some reason I chose a pink logo even though it is not a colour that I like.  I had an idea of what I thought a beauty blog should look like; I thought it should be feminine and soft and appeal to a female readership so I went with pink, however I hate pink and the design I went with was not reflective of me or my blog.

Dr Frank-N -Furter I love you!

The only part of my blog I did like was the lip motif. The lips were supposed to be a homage to The Rocky Horror Picture Show but this was lost with the pink colour scheme. I'm a HUGE Rocky Horror fan and I feel that the film is reflective of me and my interests. I love gothic horror, musicals, 50's science fiction films, lipstick,am interested in gender, things that subvert norms and am a total film geek. The Rocky Horror Show has everything I love plus it has the Time Warp and Dr Frank-N-Furter! It is the perfect celluloid package, it is also my go to film to give me a pick me up when I am feeling a bit down. I feel like my blog design is a little nod to The Rocky Horror Show and therefore more of a reflection of me.

Remember readers: Don't dream it, be it!

What do you think to the new layout? Feedback is always appreciated.

NYC Natural Matte Foundation: The Ultimate Budget Foundation?

A review of NYC's Natural Matte Foundation

NYC Natural Matte Foundation in Ivory 001

Like many woman I am on the look out for the perfect foundation and as a beauty blogger committed to budget products, I am on the search for the ultimate budget foundation. I am a massive fan of the Maxfactor Smooth Effect Foundation but I’ve decided I want to track down a high street foundation that performs and the cheaper it costs the better . When I set myself this challenge I thought it would be a pretty depressing task. I expected I wouldn’t be able to find a foundation in my shade, never mind one that was actually good. However, I am pleased to say I was very much mistaken and proved wrong by NYC’s Natural Matte Foundation.

The foundation claims to offer ‘up to 8 hours of shine free complexion. Perfect, flawless yet breathable and natural looking coverage.’ I think that for the first time ever I would not dispute any claims that are made on the packaging of a product because this foundation really does do everything it claims to. I don’t have greasy skin so perhaps I’m not the most qualified to comment on how it controls shine but this formula is in no way greasy and definitely doesn’t encourage grease or shine.

Left: Without makeup Right: With NYC Natural Matte Foundation in 001 Ivory
What I love about this product is the extent of the coverage and how well it lasts. It gives a good medium coverage, successfully camouflaging blemishes and dark circles. I don’t have the best skin and often don’t get time during the day to reapply my makeup so a long lasting foundation is a must. Once this was applied I felt confident all day that my skin still looked even and my worst bits remained disguised. This foundation is also very easy to apply, it blends well and one application gives enough coverage for a full days wear. I also received lots of compliments whilst wearing this foundation about how well I looked and how clear my skin was.

My one complaint about this product is that it doesn’t come in enough shades. I opted for the lightest shade which is 001 Ivory. I would say it is a shade darker than I should be wearing. Despite this, I have had this product for over a month and worn it everyday because the coverage is just so good. What’s more, it is only £2.99! Seriously, this product is the ultimate bargain because not only is it super affordable it also performs. Please, please NYC make this product in shades for super pale skin.

NYC Foundation Review

Product:  A long lasting foundation that is affordable, easy to apply and easy to wear.

Longevity: Very long wearing, a good 5 to 7 hours plus. Lots of applications per bottle.

Affordable: Very, the ultimate bargain at £2.99!

Easy to use: Easy to apply, blend and wear.

Availability: Available from Superdrug and online.

The Verdict: 9/10 – A great, affordable, long lasting product. Giving Maxfactor a run for their money!

Virtual gifts for virtual friends!

Kelly from Misfits will you be my friend?!

As I had already done most of my Christmas shopping before the gifts started to hit the shelves I decided to do a bit of virtual shopping for imaginary friends. This got me thinking about who I would want to be friends with from the world of TV! My first virtual gift was the No7Beautifier from Boots and the imaginary friend I would purchase this for it Kelly from Misfits!

I absolutely love Kelly. Her facial expressions and one- liners are hilarious! She is who she is, is confident with it and completely unapologetic about being herself. You also know that if you were mates with Kelly she would always watch your back.

The brown shades would compliment her jump suit

Ok, so I have to admit I wouldn’t normally associate with murders but it was always self- defense! There is no way you could borrow any of her clothes or jewellery but so what, I love her! I think the Boots No7 Beautifier would be perfect for her. The mascara would emphasis her super long lashes and the brown shades compliment the colour of her community payback overalls. I’d be tempted to buy her an eyeliner to accompany the set because she is a fan of the overdone eyeliner look.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Concealer Review

The Body Shop Tea Tree Concealer

I recently wrote a post about The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion and how much I loved it. When I was purchasing the Skin Clearing Lotion, I also spotted the Tea Tree Concealer and thought it would be a product worth trying.

As I have very pale skin I suspected that they wouldn’t have a shade that was pale enough. Unfortunately the shade isn’t quite pale enough but when it is mixed with foundation it is easy to blend. Also, although it isn’t quite as pale as I would like it also isn’t orange, which a lot of concealers are and is a definite bonus..

Not quite as pale I would have liked.
This concealer provides medium coverage, is creamy and easy to blend on the skin. What I really like is how it makes the skin tingle when applied to spots, so you know that even though you’re wearing makeup you are fighting spots at the same time. It does have a slight smell of tea tree but when applied to the skin this soon disappears and is not noticeable at all.

I use the concealer  to cover and fight breakouts at the same time. If you are looking for a concealer to hide circles I would choose I range with more variety in shades but for those with blemish prone skin this is a must have. I’m definitely a fan of The Body Shop’s Tea Tree range and at £6.00 this a great little product!
